Melinda’s practice revolves around principally, the personal injury area of law and coronial inquests.
She practices in medical negligence (defence), and is briefed to appear at medical and non-medical coronial inquests, including as Counsel Assisting the Coroner.
She also practices in the area of general public liability insurance, and undertakes prison reviews as an external inspector for the Office of the Chief Inspector.
She is briefed by a number of leading medico legal insurers and general insurers, operating in her area of expertise, and has accepted Junior Counsel briefs to leading Queen’s Counsel who operate in her practice areas. Melinda was nominated as recommended Junior counsel in Doyle’s Guide in the category of ‘Leading Insurance and Personal Injury Barristers – Queensland 2016’.
As a solicitor Melinda was involved in a number of unfair dismissal claims and workplace disputes. Melinda has a keen interest in expanding her practice at the Bar to include employment and disciplinary matters.
Prior to commencing practice as a barrister in Brisbane in 2011, Melinda had close to seven years working as a solicitor. Prior to completing her law degree, Melinda had a 17 year nursing background as a clinician, educator and manager.
