With a background in electrical and mechanical construction and operations in the resources and energy sector, Ben was first admitted as a legal practitioner in 1994 after completing five-year Articles training whilst working full time in legal practice.
After a further five years as a solicitor involved in a wide variety of commercial and insurance litigation, Ben was first called to the Brisbane Bar in Queensland in 1999.
Since then, Ben has a developed a busy practice at the Bar providing down to earth, accurate and commercially practical advice, advocacy and, importantly, teamwork assistance to instructing lawyers and clients in a variety of commercial and insurance litigation and alternate dispute resolution (including mediation and arbitration), with special interests primarily involving legal issues in:
- body corporate disputes;
- construction & engineering issues;
- energy & resources sectors;
- infrastructure and property development; and
- succession and estate litigation.
Ben’s practice includes representing medium to large scale construction companies, resource companies, insolvency practitioners, SME’s and estate disputants in State and Federal courts and tribunals, as well as in many mediations and other ADR processes.
In 2019 Ben was recommended in Doyle’s Guide as Leading Counsel in Construction for Queensland.
Ben is an active member of a number of relevant professional associations including AILA, AMPLA, ARITA, BDPS, CIArb and SoCLA.
Ben enjoys mentoring young lawyers and law students, and in his free time enjoys following all footy codes, cricket, surfing and playing music.
